Lithuanian Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas has announced his resignation.

This was announced by the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda, LRT reports.

“Gintautas Paluckas called me on the phone this morning and informed me of his resignation,” Nauseda told reporters.

The President added that the head of government made “the only right choice.”

“I welcome his decision,” Nauseda added.

According to the Constitution, the Prime Minister of Lithuania is appointed and dismissed by the President with the consent of the Parliament.

Paluckas is known to have found himself in a number of scandals after a journalistic investigation revealed that the company Garnis, which he co-founded, received a subsidized loan of 200,000 euros from the National Development Bank when Paluckas was prime minister.
