€90B Lifeline: European Commission Unveils First Aid Tranche for Ukraine

The European Commission expects that the first funds under the new €90 billion loan package for Ukraine could arrive by the end of the second quarter of 2026.

The European Commission spokesman, Balazs Uyvari, made this statement, as reported by the correspondent of “European Truth.”

According to him, the EU remains committed to the plan to quickly launch funding.

“We remain committed to making the first disbursement of this package during the second half of this year,” Uyvari said.

He recalled that the decision on the loan was made at the level of European Union leaders, and technical preparation of the mechanisms for its launch is currently underway.

“We, of course, expect all EU leaders, all member states, to live up to their commitments,” the spokesman said.

According to him, the European Commission is already working to complete the key documents necessary for the launch of the program.

“We have already adopted the Ukraine Financing Strategy, which allows us to determine how much money we are going to provide to Ukraine, for what purposes, and through what channels,” Ujvari explained.

He also added that the work is constantly coordinated with the Ukrainian side.

“The work is ongoing. We are in many contacts with our Ukrainian colleagues and are moving forward as quickly as we can,” the European Commission spokesman stressed.

As a reminder, Hungarian opposition leader Peter Magyar, whose party won the elections, opposed Ukraine’s accelerated accession to the EU but stated that he would not block a 90 billion euro loan for Kyiv.

As reported, the European Union hopes to unblock a billion-dollar loan to Ukraine as soon as possible and impose new sanctions on Russia amid Viktor Orban’s defeat in Hungary’s parliamentary elections.
