London responded to Russia’s statements about “legitimate goals” in Ukraine

Russia said it would consider foreign troops in Ukraine to be legitimate targets, and the United Kingdom responded by emphasizing the right of its military to self-defense.

This is reported by Reuters and BBC .

Moscow has stated that any deployment of foreign military units, facilities, or warehouses on the territory of Ukraine after the ceasefire will be regarded by Russia as a threat to its own security. The Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that such forces will automatically become legitimate combat targets.

The Russian side also called the plans of Great Britain and France regarding the possible deployment of a multinational contingent in Ukraine “militaristic”.

London reacted to these statements. A British government representative stressed that this refers exclusively to forces that can be deployed after the end of hostilities. According to him, the potential mission includes training Ukrainian military personnel, ensuring security in the air and at sea, as well as deterring new aggression from the Russian Federation.

The British side also made it clear that the Kingdom’s military is ready to defend itself in the event of a threat. London emphasized that all British armed forces, wherever they are, have the right to self-defense in the event of an attack.

As previously reported, France and the United Kingdom declared their readiness to join international initiatives to guarantee Ukraine’s security after a possible ceasefire.

As a reminder, Turkey has declared its readiness to send its troops to Ukraine as part of a peacekeeping contingent, but only under clearly defined conditions.
