Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion, 2016 Olympic silver medalist, and Servant of the People MP Zhan Beleniuk found himself at the center of a high-profile scandal after an ambiguous post on social media.
On his Facebook page, the athlete and politician posted a photo of himself posing in giant golden boxing gloves. Under the picture, he wrote briefly: “Looking for someone to f**k.”
This “joke” instantly caused a wave of indignation among social media users. A real discussion broke out in the comments under the post – most condemned the MP for inappropriate humor at a time when the country is waging a full-scale war.
Here are just some of the reactions:
“And this is shit – the level of a deputy from a warring country”
“At the forefront of options with a shaft”
“A little too much with the title of the post, as for a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada”
“Go to the LBZ, there’s someone there. Otherwise, the poor guy is either in the gym, at competitions, or in the Council. Are you sitting around?! There’s so much work for the boys.”
“Strong post. Grammatical. Meaningful. Corresponds to the deputy’s rule-making technique”
“Level is the bottom.”
Commentators believe that a representative of the government should behave more restrained and responsible, especially during a war, when every public word can matter. Beleniuk himself has not yet responded to the criticism.
As a reminder, earlier the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court chose a preventive measure for another MP from the “Servant of the People” faction, Oleksiy Kuznetsov , who was detained by NABU detectives and SAPO prosecutors. He was taken into custody for 60 days with the right to post bail.
As reported by public figure, politician and journalist Vitaliy Haidukevych, dissatisfaction with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is growing within the Servant of the People faction, which could lead to the collapse of the current political majority in the Verkhovna Rada . According to him, since the head of state intends to run for a second term, he is trying to gradually get rid of the most “toxic” representatives of his team.
