On March 19, units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine repelled a large-scale attempt by Russian troops in the Lymansko-Borivskoye direction. As a result, the enemy attack was thwarted, and Russian forces suffered significant losses in equipment and manpower.
This is reported by the Third Army Corps.
According to information, the enemy simultaneously attacked in 7 directions in the corps’ area of responsibility. Units of the 1st Tank and 20th Combined Arms Armies of Russia were involved in the offensive.
The attack involved over 500 infantrymen, 28 pieces of armored vehicles, and over 100 pieces of motorized vehicles, including buggies and ATVs. The attack lasted about 4 hours, but was thwarted by trained units.
According to the corps, enemy losses are:
- 84 units of motor vehicles;
- 11 infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers;
- 3 tanks;
- 5 guns;
- 1 heavy flamethrower system “Sun Chain”;
- over 160 drones.
In addition, 405 Russian servicemen were killed in a day, of which 288 were irretrievable losses.
Brigadier General Andriy Biletsky noted that Ukrainian forces had recorded the enemy’s preparations for the offensive in advance.
“For a month and a half, we have been observing signs of preparations for an offensive. The Russians have been increasing their KAB strikes on our crossings through Oskil, trying to cut off logistics,” he said.
According to him, the enemy also set up pontoon crossings and demined routes.
“We were preparing: defensive actions were practiced in different directions, each brigade had its own plan for repelling the attack. The corps coordinated these actions – and as a result, attacks were thwarted in all directions,” Biletsky added.
The report notes that Russian troops have not managed to capture any settlements or positions. The destruction of the remnants of enemy forces continues.
The day before, it became known that Russian troops are moving into the initial phase of the spring offensive campaign , changing assault tactics. At the same time, the Kremlin plans to attract more than 400,000 new soldiers, avoiding the official announcement of a mass conscription.
Recall that the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky, reported that Russian troops have increased pressure on several sections of the front at once, and the number of combat clashes exceeds 200 per day. At the same time, the losses of Russian troops have also increased – in just three days, Ukrainian forces neutralized about 4,840 occupiers, killed and wounded.
Earlier it became known that the Russian occupation army is demonstrating increased activity at the front against the backdrop of improving weather conditions. According to Syrsky, the enemy is not backing down from its intentions and continues to prepare for further aggression. In particular, this year it is recruiting another 409 thousand soldiers.
In early March, it was reported that the Russian military was preparing for a new offensive in the Pokrovsko-Mirnogradsk agglomeration area in the Donetsk region. The Russians are seeking to completely occupy these two cities. However, units of the Defense Forces are holding certain positions on the northern outskirts of the settlements.
