For the first time, the current US administration has imposed new sanctions against Russia, in particular against Lukoil and Rosneft, which in the future will lead to serious consequences for the Kremlin. Thus, US President Donald Trump is demonstrating a kind of “love with interest” to the Kremlin dictator Vladimir.

Political scientist Taras Zagorodny spoke about this on the air of “Pryamoy”.

“The effectiveness (of sanctions – ed.) will be seen over time. The fact that Russia is the problem is obvious. This is the introduction of sanctions against companies that Biden did not touch. Because the previous administration was more favorable to Russian oil, because they had a “green” transition and needed a high price for oil. And they gave the Russians the opportunity to survive,” Zagorodny noted.

At the same time, he cited figures that indicate that the Trump administration is betting on traditional energy sources, which is why the Kremlin started having problems due to the decline in oil prices and their displacement from this market.

“When did the Russian economy start to decline? After the administration changed, because the price of oil dropped by 20%, when the supply of oil increased, when the current administration focused on traditional carriers, and this led to the fact that the Russians started having problems. And then they simply squeezed them out of the markets. They hit Lukoil. I think that all of Lukoil’s international projects will be closed. They work widely there, both in Europe and in Africa. They also hit Rosneft, which is also very nice,” the political scientist explains.

According to him, the seriousness of the situation surrounding the new sanctions is evidenced by the visit to the United States by the Kremlin’s special representative, Kirill Dmitriev.

“Here Trump has love with interest. Because Trump and Putin have a fundamental contradiction on oil and gas issues. And here they can’t make peace. The fact that the situation is serious can be seen from the fact that Dmitriev is already in the USA. Dmitriev abruptly left for the USA,” Zagorodny emphasized.

In addition, he believes, the situation on the global oil market clearly indicates that in the future, Russia’s role in this area will be practically leveled due to the establishment of US control over key players.

“In general, this dispute is very good for us, because in this formula there is no Russian oil on foreign markets. Oil production in Alaska has finally been allowed, an onshore operation in Venezuela has been announced – this means that control over the main oil resources will be established. And this means that Russian oil… will they even find their place in this world? Because the Americans are pushing everything towards themselves or their allies. Venezuela will supply more oil to the USA, and American companies will sell it at a high margin. And pressure is also going on in full swing on India,” the political scientist explains.

“Let’s not forget that Ukrainian attacks on the oil and gas industry are ongoing. Now attacks on energy infrastructure are underway. So, this does not mean anything good for the Russians,” Taras Zagorodny summed up.

The Trump administration recently announced its first major package of financial sanctions targeting the Russian economy, part of Washington’s new strategy to force the Kremlin to end its war in Ukraine.

At the same time, US President DonaldTrump sarcastically commented on the words of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin regarding new American sanctions, which, according to the Russian leader, will allegedly not affect the Russian economy .

Later, Kremlin special representative Kirill Dmitriev arrived in the United States for talks with the administration of President Donald Trump amid new American sanctions against Russia.
