Lukashenko fears Ukraine’s reaction to military exercises with Russia, so he will move them deep into the country — Zelensky
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko fears that Ukraine will view the presence of Russian troops in the exercises as preparation for an offensive.
This was reported by Interfax-Ukraine with reference to President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“He understands: after our corresponding steps in the Kursk direction, if we feel threatened, what we are capable of. And I think that he will be an influential factor in whether it is possible to start something from the Belarusian side during the exercises,” the head of state noted.
According to intelligence, there is a possibility that the training bases will be moved deeper into Belarus, further from the borders with Ukraine. As Zelensky explained, he will do this in order to avoid provocations and a Ukrainian response.
Earlier, Deputy State Secretary of the Latvian Ministry of Defense Andis Dilans stated that up to 150,000 military personnel will participate in the Russian Zapad exercises, which will be held in Belarus in 2025 .
Recall that Russia has intensified the transfer of military cargo to Belarus by air.
