Lukashenko released 250 political prisoners after US lifted sanctions against Belarusian companies

On Thursday, March 19, after meeting with an American delegation, self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko released another group of political prisoners.
This was reported by the publication “Nasha Niva”.
250 people were released, including journalist Kateryna Andreeva, blogger Eduard Palchys, and human rights activist Nastya Loika.
Lukashenko also released Mykyta Zolotar, who was sentenced as a minor to 6.5 years in prison, and his father, political prisoner Mykhailo Lapunov.
In return, the US lifted sanctions on some Belarusian companies, the publication reports .
According to the Telegram channel “Pul Pervoi” close to Lukashenko, the decision of the US Treasury Department affected Belinvestbank, the Development Bank, the Belarusian Potash Company, and Belaruskali.
“This time it will be much faster. We have learned to do it faster. Before the visit to Minsk, we held extensive negotiations with the Treasury Department and other American structures involved in the implementation of sanctions,” said US Special Representative John Cole.
Earlier it became known that Alexander Lukashenko pardoned 31 Ukrainian citizens imprisoned in Belarus.
Recall that in June 2025,a number of political prisoners were released in Belarus , including opposition figure Serhiy Tikhanovsky.
