French President Emmanuel Macron announced an upcoming mission to gradually restore shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

This was reported by the publication Le Parisien.

During his trip to Cyprus, Macron announced a “support mission” to be prepared by European and non-European countries. However, he did not name the states that plan to participate.

These measures will help provide escort for container ships and tankers for the gradual reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

“We are preparing this mission, we discussed it today,” the French leader noted.

As Le Figaro notes , Macron stressed that France’s presence will be ensured from the Eastern Mediterranean to the Red Sea, as well as off the coast of Hormuz.

To this end, the country is mobilizing eight frigates, two amphibious helicopter carriers, and an aircraft carrier.

“This mobilization of our fleet is unprecedented. It is obviously being carried out in conjunction with the mobilization of our air and land forces in the region,” the French president concluded.

Earlier it was reported that Iran had blocked the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf , a key route for oil supplies from the Middle East. The movement of oil tankers in the strait has been effectively halted, and ships have reduced their speed to zero.

As is known, the oil tanker Skylight, flying the flag of the Republic of Palau, was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Oman . As a result of the incident, 4 crew members were injured, and all 20 sailors were evacuated.

By the way, world oil prices have risen sharply amid the escalating conflict around Iran and risks to supplies through the Strait of Hormuz.
