Magnetic storms on February 23-24: will there be a red level?
Згенеровано ШІ
On February 23 and 24, increased solar activity is expected on Earth, which may affect the well-being of weather-sensitive people.
This was reported by the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center.
Experts determine the level of geomagnetic activity using the planetary K-index, a scale from 0 to 9. If the index exceeds 5, it means a strong magnetic storm. Lower values indicate weak or moderate activity.
February 23
On Monday, a K-index of 4.7 is forecast. This is a yellow level, which corresponds to a moderate magnetic storm. On such days, some people may experience headaches, fatigue, drowsiness, or irritability.
February 24
On Tuesday, the K-index is expected to be 3.7. This is a green level, which means weak geomagnetic activity. Most people will not experience significant changes in their well-being.
Magnetic storm forecasts can change as researchers update data every three hours.
A magnetic storm is caused by solar flares that eject charged particles into space. When they reach the Earth’s magnetosphere, geomagnetic oscillations occur. If the K-index rises to 7-8, auroras can be observed in some regions. Severe storms can also affect the operation of satellites and communication systems.
To make it easier to endure a period of increased activity, doctors advise following a sleep schedule, drinking enough water, spending more time outdoors, and avoiding overwork and stress.
