In Brazil, the head of the gaming and esports department of the prefecture of Rio de Janeiro, Chandi Teixeira, and congressman Kim Cataguiri are agreeing to resolve a public dispute over a 5×5 Dota 2 match. Cataguiri has said he is ready to resign as a congressman if he loses.
Chandi Teixeira wrote about this in X .
The dispute between politicians began after a post by Chandi Teixeira, in which he stated that the gaming community should distinguish between politicians who are actually involved in the development of the industry and those who use the topic of gaming before elections.
“The community is now mature enough to understand who is exploiting the topic and who is really working,” said Chandi Teixeira.
In response, Nemesis esports club coach Filipe Astini supported MP Kim Cataguiri, noting that the politician regularly broadcasts Dota 2 regardless of election campaigns.
“If Kim only wanted popularity, he would have chosen the much more massive League of Legends, rather than the difficult threshold of entry Dota 2,” said Filipe Astini.
Later, Kim Kataguiri himself joined the discussion. The deputy suggested that Chanda Teixeira hold a 5×5 Dota 2 match and put his own parliamentary mandate on the line.
According to Cataguiri, both players should play in the center line. He said he would resign if Teixeira won the line or the match overall.
The deputy also published a screenshot of his Steam profile, which shows over 4,300 hours spent playing Dota 2. In addition, Cataguiri stated that he was the only deputy in Brazil who supported the March of the Games initiative.
Chandi Teixeira did not directly withdraw from the match, but reported difficulties in assembling the team. After that, Cataguiri criticized his opponent’s response and hinted at his reluctance to participate in the confrontation.
