Marcus may become the chief sergeant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Drapaty’s team

The team of the new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mykhailo Drapaty, is considering the candidacy of Valeriy Markus for the position of Chief Sergeant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In this position, he may be responsible for reforming the sergeant corps.

This is reported by the media, citing their own sources.

According to the interlocutors, Marcus should be engaged in army reform and the creation of the sergeant corps as a full-fledged institution.

Valeriy Markus is a Ukrainian soldier, writer, and blogger. He fought since the ATO, including in the battles for Sloviansk and Debaltseve. After the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, he returned to the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Marcus was the chief sergeant of the 47th separate mechanized brigade “Magura”, which was created according to NATO standards. In 2023, he left his post due to disagreements with the command, and later continued his service in the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense.

Previously, Marcus had repeatedly publicly criticized the approaches of the previous military leadership, in particular former Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrsky, to managing the army.

As a reminder, Brigadier General Serhiy Sobko has become the acting Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine . Final confirmation of the position is expected in the near future.
