Massive drone attack on Moscow: explosions, fires and airport shutdown

On the night of October 27, Moscow and more than a dozen other regions of Russia were attacked by drones. Explosions were heard in the capital, fires broke out in several districts, and two airports were temporarily closed.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, air defense systems allegedly shot down 193 drones, some of which were heading towards Moscow. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that air defense systems destroyed more than 30 drones as they approached the capital.

After midnight, Rosaviatsia announced the temporary suspension of operations at Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports. According to Russian Telegram channels, explosions were heard in the areas of Domodedovo, Podolsk, Ramenskoye, Troitsk, Kolomna, and Kommunarka.

In Kommunarka, eyewitnesses recorded a column of smoke after the explosions. Journalists confirmed the authenticity of the footage, noting that the smoke was visible near a forest massif near the Proposed Passage.

In Krasnogorsk, a drone hit a residential building, damaging an apartment on the 14th floor. According to Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyov, five people were injured, including a child.

Additionally, in the Bryansk region, a suicide drone attacked a minibus carrying local residents. The driver was killed and five other people were injured.

The head of the Kaluga region, Vladislav Shapsha, reported that debris from downed drones damaged five buildings.

The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that drones were allegedly shot down over twelve regions of the country:

  • 47 — over the Bryansk region,
  • 42 — above Kaluga,
  • 40 — above Moskovskaya,
  • 32 — above Tulskaya,
  • 10 — over Kursk,
  • 7 — above Orlovskaya,
  • 4 each – over Rostovskaya and Voronezhskaya,
  • 2 each – over Orenburg and Tambov,
  • 1 each — over the Lipetsk and Samara regions.

The head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, Andriy Kovalenko, noted that Moscow is under attack by drones, but without specifying details.

It was previously reported that Moscow came under attack by drones on the evening of October 26. Explosions were heard in several areas of the city, and local authorities announced that several drones had been shot down.

By the way, on the night of October 24, several Russian regions were subjected to a large-scale drone attack. The incidents partially halted operations at airports, and in the Moscow region, one of the drones flew into a residential building .
