Russian troops massively attacked Ukraine’s energy infrastructure on the night and morning of October 14. The shelling left some consumers in Kyiv and seven other regions without electricity, and hourly power outages were introduced in a number of regions.
This was announced by the First Deputy Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Artem Nekrasov, during a briefing on the situation in the energy system.
Power plants, electricity transmission and distribution facilities in Kyiv, Kyiv region, and Kharkiv region were hit.
Due to Russian attacks, power outages were recorded in Kyiv, as well as in Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia, Sumy, Kharkiv, Khmelnytskyi, and Chernihiv regions.
“Where the security situation allows, repair crews have already begun restoring power supply. The work is complicated by constant air alarms,” Nekrasov noted.
Due to damage to energy infrastructure and network constraints, hourly outage schedules are in place for all consumer categories in a number of regions. Capacity limitation schedules have also been introduced for industry and business.
The Ministry of Energy explained that these measures are necessary to prevent network overload and large-scale accidents.
Current outage schedules are published on the official resources of electricity distribution system operators. Consumers are advised to follow updates on the pages of their regional energy authorities.
