A massive fire broke out at the Na Ladprao pub in the Thai capital, Bangkok, on the night of July 13. The fire killed at least 27 people and hospitalized 63 others, 22 of whom are in critical condition.
This is reported by CNN .
The fire broke out around midnight at the Na Ladprao pub in northern Bangkok. Video footage released by firefighters showed a large fire and thick black smoke billowing from the building. Patrons tried to leave the premises, but many were trapped by the smoke.
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnwirakul, who arrived at the scene of the tragedy, said at least 27 people had died. He said the cause of the fire was currently being determined.
According to the head of government, one of the musicians said that before the fire, he saw smoke near the electrical panel next to the stage. After that, the power went out, there was an explosion, and the room quickly filled with thick smoke.
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sitthipunt said 63 people were taken to hospitals, 22 of whom were in critical condition. The identities of the dead and injured are still being determined, as many of the visitors were undocumented or unconscious.
Many of the bodies were found near the toilets at the back of the establishment, Anutin Charnvirakul said. It took firefighters about 30 minutes to fully contain the fire.
Singer Sukanya Wongwongwai reported that among the musicians performing in the pub, one band member died, three were hospitalized, and another person has not yet been found.
“From what I heard from people who were inside when the fire started, everything went dark. The lights went out, there was smoke everywhere, so people couldn’t find each other,” said Sukanya Wongwongwai.
