Massive Russian attack caused damage to railway stations and disruption to train services

On the night of Saturday, November 8, Russia carried out another massive missile and drone strike on the territory of Ukraine. The railway infrastructure suffered the most – stations, contact networks, and locomotive depots were damaged in several regions.
This was announced by the Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksiy Kuleba.
The main impact was felt in the Poltava region, where the attack led to the loss of power to several stations. This led to a partial suspension of train traffic and significant delays in the schedule. Locomotive depots were particularly affected, which became the main target of the attack.
Ukrzaliznytsia organized passenger transfers on certain routes and attracted diesel locomotives to ensure transportation.
“Our railway workers are working on the ground to restore the infrastructure as soon as possible and return traffic to its usual rhythm. Russia is once again striking at what sustains life – terror against peaceful people,” the message says.
Later, Ukrzaliznytsia reported that Telegram channels were distributing apocalyptic photos from the Poltava region, sowing panic and intimidating Ukrainians with “train reductions and traffic restrictions” in the region.
“Such attacks on depots, substations, and railway infrastructure have already become a daily occurrence, we are recovering and finding solutions to maintain traffic after each such attack. We emphasize: any information about schedule changes – for example, at the request of the OVA – only on official UZ channels!”, the message says.
The company added that as of now, enough reserve diesel locomotives have been deployed to the de-energized sections – primarily this concerns the Poltava region. The de-energized sections are gradually being powered up, electric traction has already been restored from Hrebinka to Poltava, the movement of all trains is maintained, and the infrastructure is being repaired – railway workers are doing everything for this.
“In particular, even Intercity+ No. 712 Kyiv-Husarivka (Kramatorsk direction) is currently running under a reserve diesel locomotive, and further service has already been organized with a replacement rolling stock. We guarantee that we will transport everyone, as always,” Ukrzaliznytsia concluded.
We would like to remind you that rescue operations are ongoing in many Ukrainian cities as a result of Russia’s massive nighttime attack. The enemy used over half a thousand airstrikes, which resulted in casualties and injuries among the civilian population, including children.
