As of January 16, Ukraine’s power system remains in an extremely difficult state due to constant Russian attacks and difficult weather conditions. The strikes have resulted in power outages for consumers in Zaporizhia and Kharkiv regions, and grid restrictions have been imposed in Kyiv and the Kyiv region.
This was reported by the Kyiv Regional Military Administration.
It is noted that last night the enemy attacked the energy infrastructure in several regions of Ukraine. As of this morning, consumers in Zaporizhia and Kharkiv regions were left without electricity. Emergency restoration work is ongoing where the security situation allows.
The situation in the capital region remains the most difficult. In Kyiv and the Kyiv region, distribution system operators are applying network restrictions. Previously announced hourly outage schedules are temporarily not in effect. The return to the predicted schedules will occur after the stabilization of the power system.
“Emergency restoration work in the capital and the region continues around the clock, despite difficult weather conditions,” the Ministry of Energy noted.
Also in the Odessa region, network restrictions and restoration work continue after previous enemy attacks.
In all regions of Ukraine, hourly outage schedules are in effect for all categories of consumers, and industry operates on special capacity limitation schedules. In several regions, emergency outages are forced to be used due to equipment overload in the cold.
In connection with the massive attacks by Russia, a state of emergency is in effect. The Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, is coordinating the work on the elimination of the consequences. The relevant headquarters have already started work, and all services are working in an enhanced mode.
The Ministry of Energy calls on Ukrainians to minimize the load on the power system and limit the use of powerful electrical appliances by the end of the week. Saving electricity will help reduce the duration of forced power outages.
It was previously reported that Ukraine’s energy system is in difficult conditions due to intensive Russian shelling and the most severe winter in 20 years . In connection with the emergency situation in the energy sector, the Government has identified a set of measures to overcome its consequences.
By the way, on January 15, the Russian army destroyed a critical energy infrastructure facility in Kharkiv with a missile attack.
