Israeli media, citing sources, reported the probable death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, General Mohammad Pakpour, during the morning strikes on February 28. At the same time, the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated that Khamenei is alive and the country’s leadership continues to perform its functions.
This is reported by The Times of Israel .
According to journalists, there are “growing indications” that Khamenei may have been killed. It was also previously reported that he was “at least wounded”, but these assessments were based on information from anonymous sources, not satellite images.
The strikes reportedly caused “very significant damage” to the Iranian regime’s leadership and its military commanders. The sources also said Iran’s defense minister and intelligence chief may have been killed.
At the same time, this data has not been officially confirmed by Iran or the Israel Defense Forces.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in an interview with NBC News that the supreme leader is alive.
“As far as I know, the supreme leader is alive,” Abbas Araghchi said.
He also added that two commanders were killed, but all senior officials remain in their posts.
“All senior officials are alive. Everyone is in their place, and we are monitoring the situation,” Abbas Araghchi said.
The minister criticized the US and Israel for ordering strikes despite ongoing nuclear talks.
Recall that on February 28, Israel launched preemptive strikes on Iran, and also attacked Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon . A state of emergency was declared throughout the country.
It later emerged that the strikes on Iran were a joint operation between Israel and the United States . After that, US President Donald Trump confirmed that the United States had launched a military campaign in Iran .
At the same time, Saudi Arabia strongly condemned Iran’s aggression against the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, and Jordan and declared its readiness to “provide all its capabilities to support them in all measures they take.”
