Ukraine, the United States, and Russia will hold trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi on January 23 to resolve the war. The talks will be a continuation of the contacts that took place in Davos and Moscow and will last 2 days.

The talks in Abu Dhabi were announced after a series of diplomatic contacts involving representatives of Ukraine, the United States, and Russia. The trilateral meeting was initiated by the American side.

Thus, on January 22, US President’s special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. The meeting lasted over 3.5 hours and was dedicated to discussing the end of the war in Ukraine and the parameters of further steps.

Russian presidential advisor Yuri Ushakov said thatMoscow has agreed to participate in a trilateral meeting in the UAE . According to him, the Russian delegation in Abu Dhabi will be led by Igor Kostyukov, head of the Main Directorate of the General Staff.

“We are sincerely interested in resolving the Ukrainian crisis through political and diplomatic methods, but without resolving the territorial issue, we should not count on a long-term settlement,” Ushakov said.

In parallel, contacts between Ukraine and the United States took place in Davos. The Ukrainian delegation held meetings with American representatives, in particular with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, during which security guarantees, economic recovery, and preparations for further negotiations were discussed.

On January 22, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also met with US President Donald Trump in Davos. The parties discussed strengthening air defense and coordinating diplomatic efforts.

“We discussed the work of the teams, meetings or communication take place practically every day. The documents are even more prepared,” Zelenskyy said.

The President of Ukraine confirmed that the trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi will last 2 days and will be held at the level of negotiators. He emphasized that the very fact of holding the meeting is an important step.

“This will be a trilateral meeting at the level of negotiators. We’ll see what the result will be. For me, the fact that the meeting will take place is already a positive thing. This is a step,” Zelenskyy said.

The Ukrainian delegation at the talks in Abu Dhabi will be led by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov. The delegation will also include Head of the Presidential Office Kyrylo Budanov, First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Serhiy Kyslytsia, Head of the Servant of the People parliamentary faction Davyd Arakhamia, and Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Andriy Hnatov.

According to Zelensky, one of the key topics of the negotiations will be the territorial issue, which he called one of the most complex.

“I think that in the trilateral meetings, we will perhaps show each other options. This is all about the east of our country. This is a land issue that we have not resolved,” the president said.

Possible security and energy issues will also be discussed. Zelensky noted that with the cooperation of all parties, the war can be ended.

Putin’s talks with US representatives lasted more than three and a half hours — from Thursday evening to Friday night, Moscow time.

By the way, the US and Ukraine are discussing the possibility of offering Russia a limited “energy truce,” which would involve a cessation of attacks on energy infrastructure on both sides.
