On Friday, August 8, a strong surge in solar activity is expected – the magnetic storm will reach a K-index of 6, which corresponds to the red threat level. This level of geomagnetic disturbance can affect both people’s well-being and the operation of equipment, satellite systems, and communications.

The forecast is based on data from the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC), which constantly monitors solar activity. Geomagnetic storms are classified on a scale from 0 to 9. Starting with a K-index of 5, we are talking about high-level storms that can already cause physiological discomfort.

How will the geomagnetic situation change?
August 7 (Thursday): The K-index will be 2 — this is weak activity that will not have a significant impact.

August 8 (Friday): a sharp jump is expected – the K-index will increase to 6, meaning a powerful magnetic storm is predicted.

August 9 (Saturday): the storm will continue – the level will remain high, the K-index will reach 5.

Experts warn that forecasts are updated every 3 hours, so the situation may change. Stay tuned for updates.

What is a magnetic storm and why is it important?
A magnetic storm occurs as a result of the release of solar plasma – charged particles, reaching the Earth’s magnetosphere, provoke disturbances that can affect the health of people, especially those who are weather-dependent.

Most often, during storms, headaches, weakness, bad mood, sleep disturbances occur. In some people, chronic diseases worsen.

In addition, high levels of magnetic activity can affect the operation of electronics, GPS, radio communications, and mobile networks.

How to support your body during a magnetic storm
Get enough sleep, avoid overwork

Avoid alcohol, caffeine, fatty and salty foods.

Drink more pure water and herbal tea

Take leisurely walks, but avoid direct sunlight.

Maintain emotional calm, avoid conflicts

People with chronic diseases should carry the necessary medications with them.

A contrast shower in the morning or a warm bath in the evening will help reduce stress.
