MiG-29 crashed in Odessa region: SBI establishes the causes of the disaster

The State Bureau of Investigation has launched an investigation into the circumstances of the crash of a MiG-29 fighter jet of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which occurred on the evening of August 10 in the Bereziv district of the Odessa region. Investigators are currently searching for the aircraft’s flight recorder.

According to preliminary data, the fighter jet was performing a combat mission to destroy Russian drones. During the active phase of the operation, an emergency situation occurred: the plane caught fire, after which the pilot lost control and was forced to eject. His life is not in danger.
The SBI investigative and operational group arrived at the crash site immediately after the incident and worked there throughout the night. Law enforcement officers inspected the area, removed the wreckage of the fighter jet, are collecting the necessary materials, and are interviewing witnesses and servicemen.
The search for the “black box” is currently underway. Information from the flight recorder will help establish the circumstances of the last minutes of the flight and determine the preliminary causes of the aircraft crash.
In addition, the investigation will verify whether the rules for preparing for the flight, its execution, and operation of the aircraft were followed.
Criminal proceedings were opened under Part 2 of Article 416 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – violation of flight rules or preparation for them, as well as the operation of aircraft, which caused a disaster.
It was previously reported that the Ukrainian Air Force lost a MiG-29 fighter jet while performing a combat mission in the Odessa region on the evening of August 10.
