MiG-31 over Estonia: diplomats convene meeting

Amid the violation of Estonian airspace by Russian fighter jets, the UN Security Council will hold a meeting on September 22, and the following day NATO ambassadors will discuss the situation.

This was reported by The Guardian.

For the UN Security Council, this will be the second meeting in the last 10 days to discuss Russia’s aggressive stance on the situation in the region.

“The problem is that Russia, a permanent member of the Security Council, has very blatantly violated the principle of territorial integrity,” Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna emphasized.

Meanwhile, NATO ambassadors will meet separately on Tuesday.

The meeting will be convened after Estonia triggered the Article 4 procedure for emergency discussions. It will discuss NATO’s response to the incident.

As a reminder, Estonia stated that three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets violated its airspace and were there for 12 minutes.

The Estonian Defense Ministry later reported that the incursion of Russian MiG-31 fighters into the country’s airspace was deliberate .
