In Poland, border guards have discovered an underground tunnel near the border with Belarus through which 180 migrants illegally entered the country. Some of them have been detained, while the search for others is ongoing.
This is reported by RMF24 .
Polish border guards discovered the tunnel on Thursday, December 11, near the village of Narewka in the Podlaskie Voivodeship. According to law enforcement, the underground passage was dug under the Polish-Belarusian state border.
Border Guard spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Andrzej Juzwiak noted that the tunnel was several dozen meters long and about 1.5 meters high. Its entrance was hidden in a forest area about 50 meters from the Belarusian side of the border. The exit was located 10 meters from the barrier, already on Polish territory.
On the same day, 180 foreigners illegally crossed the border through the tunnel. Law enforcement officers detained 130 people, and the operation to search for the rest is ongoing with the participation of border guards, police, military personnel, and service dogs.
According to Yuzvyak, most of those detained were citizens of Afghanistan and Pakistan. Others included citizens of India, Nepal, Bangladesh, and several other countries.
During the operation, border guards also detained two drivers who had come to pick up migrants. They were a 69-year-old resident of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship and a 49-year-old citizen of Lithuania. According to law enforcement officers, the men were supposed to transport foreigners to Western European countries. Further proceedings are ongoing against them.
The Border Guard Service reported that this is the fourth tunnel under the Polish-Belarusian border found this year by officers from the Podlaskie Voivodeship.
It was previously reported that Alexander Lukashenko is once again resorting to the tactic of using illegal migrants as a tool for geopolitical pressure on European Union countries.
