Military personnel abroad can take the VLK remotely: details

Ukrainian servicemen undergoing treatment abroad do not need to return to Ukraine to undergo a military medical examination (MME). They can do so remotely. The Ministry of Defense has clarified what documents are required for this and how long it will take to review them.

This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

Under the new rules, military personnel can remotely receive the VLK’s decision on the need for continued treatment or on fitness or unfitness for service.

To do this, the serviceman or his legal representative must provide the commander of the military unit with copies of medical documents from a foreign hospital. They must be translated into Ukrainian and certified. The documents must also contain a diagnosis according to the International Classification of Diseases ICD-10 or ICD-11.

The military unit then forwards the documents along with the referral to the garrison VLK. Doctors must review them within 10 days of receiving all the necessary documents.

After that, the commission decides whether the soldier needs to continue treatment or determines his fitness for service.

The decision of the Military Commission is sent to the military unit, which must notify the serviceman within three days. If necessary, this can be done through relatives or legal representatives.

The conclusion itself is issued electronically. The serviceman can receive it at the email address he indicated in the report or application.

It is important that upon returning to Ukraine, it is not necessary to reconfirm the decision of the remote VLK. If a serviceman needs a paper copy of the conclusion, he can obtain it at the medical institution where the commission worked.

The Ministry of Defense is also working on rules that will determine the grounds for continuing treatment of military personnel with continued payments, including in foreign hospitals.
