Military personnel cannot be involved in combat missions after the NWCH: the Ministry of Defense gave the reason

In accordance with Part Two of Article 24 of the Law of Ukraine “On Military Duty and Military Service”, servicemen whose military service has been suspended:

• • are dismissed from their positions;

• • are considered not to be performing (not carrying out) military service duties;

• • are not included in the number of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations.

Until an order is issued to continue military service in accordance with the established procedure, such servicemen cannot be involved in performing official or combat tasks.

Which military personnel does this apply to?

First of all, this applies to military personnel whose service was suspended until May 10, 2025 — the date of entry into force of Law of Ukraine No. 4392-IX.

In particular, this concerns military personnel who, prior to this date, voluntarily left a military unit or place of service or deserted, and after the registration of criminal proceedings, returned to the military unit.

The mere fact of returning after the SZC does not mean an automatic extension of military service. It must be extended in accordance with the procedure established by law.

Only after the commander issues an order to extend military service, such a serviceman may be called to duty. He will also be restored to his financial and other benefits, privileges, and social guarantees.

Since the beginning of 2026, the GUZPV has contributed to the restoration of the violated rights of almost 2 thousand servicemen and their family members.
