Military police in Ukraine: when will it start working and what is allowed under the new standard

During the martial law period, military police will receive expanded powers. They will work at checkpoints, check documents, make arrests, and monitor discipline among military personnel and civilians.
This is stated in the draft professional standard prepared by the Main Directorate of the Military Law Enforcement Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Military police officers must monitor law and order in units, monitor compliance with military discipline, search individuals and vehicles, seize evidence, and draw up administrative protocols for violations.
Their responsibilities also include:
detention of military and civilian personnel,
security of military facilities,
escort and patrol in combat zones or at critical infrastructure facilities.
The document separately regulates the procedure for the use of force, special means and firearms. Police officers must act in accordance with instructions, and only after warning the violator.
Knowledge and skills are required:
self-defense techniques,
using batons, handcuffs, spray cans, stun guns,
rules of shooting and response in extreme situations.
They must also be able to provide first aid to victims after the use of force or weapons.
During martial law, military police will work on patrols, be on duty at checkpoints, check documents and transport, and monitor compliance with curfew rules.
Separately, the training involves knowledge of:
legislation on the movement of people,
coordination with the National Police,
actions within the framework of peacekeeping or humanitarian missions outside the country.
Future military police officers are required to undergo special training courses, certification, regular advanced training, and psychological fitness testing.
Requirements for candidates:
good health,
basic military training,
no criminal record,
readiness to serve in conditions of increased responsibility.
