The NSDC’s decision to impose sanctions on Timur Mindich, who had significant access to state institutions and financial transactions, raises questions about the effectiveness of such restrictions, as the figure came into the spotlight after his whereabouts were revealed by Ukrainian journalists abroad.
Political scientist Volodymyr Tsybulko expressed doubt on the air of “Pryamoy” that sanctions contribute to the investigation.
“I have the impression that a certain mechanism of distraction, of glossing over this whole story, is still working, because after all, the president’s decision to impose sanctions did not help the Ukrainian NABU investigators as much as it hindered them… And now the escape from the territory of Ukraine is also hindering the investigation of this story,” Tsybulko noted.
According to him, such information about the whereabouts of the person involved can serve as a mechanism for “declassifying” his location, because after this person left Ukraine, statements were already made by one of the influential people that the person involved was “not the first, but not the second” in the so-called “Minditchgate”, which made it difficult to determine his real whereabouts.
Now that Ukrainian media have discovered him abroad, the question arises about the true intentions of this “discovery” and the further impact on the course of the investigation, which, according to the political scientist, has enough data for a trial.
As a reminder, journalists from Ukrainska Pravda found businessman Timur Mindich, who is suspected of corruption in the energy sector and against whom sanctions have been imposed, in Israel.
Earlier, businessman Ihor Kolomoisky said that on November 28, an attempt was made on Mindich in Israel , however, it was unsuccessful, because the attackers confused the house with a utility room.
However, as reported by the embassy, Israeli law enforcement agencies have not received any reports regarding the attempted murder of Ukrainian businessman and energy corruption suspect Timur Mindich.
