Mine protection, VR and high mobility: The Ministry of Defense presented a new armored personnel carrier

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has codified and approved for operation the new OWL-APC “Sova-BTR” armored personnel carrier. The Ukrainian-made vehicle has received modern technological solutions, a high level of protection, and can be used for a wide range of combat and special missions.

This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

The new “Sova-BTR” was created by a Ukrainian enterprise, which is already known for producing the MAC OWL “Sova” armored car. According to the department, the vehicle combines a rigid monocoque body, modern security systems, and innovative digital technologies.

The armored personnel carrier is designed to transport personnel, provide fire support to units, participate in combat operations, special operations, patrols, and evacuation missions. The equipment can also be used to eliminate the consequences of emergency situations.

During the tests, the “Sova-BTR” confirmed its declared characteristics and readiness to perform tasks in the difficult conditions of modern warfare.

Among the advantages of the new vehicle, the Ministry of Defense calls compactness, high mobility thanks to the 4×4 wheel formula, significant range, high speed, lower weight, and lower operating and maintenance costs compared to traditional armored personnel carriers.

Technological solutions attract particular attention. The armored personnel carrier received a V-shaped monocoque hull, a double bottom, blast-absorbing structural elements and special shock-absorbing seats for landing, which increase the crew’s survivability during mine explosions.

Another feature is a 360-degree VR system with night vision. The driver can monitor the situation around the car through special VR glasses, receiving a complete picture of the battlefield in real time.

In addition, the modular design allows the airborne squad to be quickly re-equipped for the evacuation of the wounded, which makes the “Sova-BTR” a universal platform for various needs of the Ukrainian military.

Recall that earlier the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine codified and admitted into operation the new domestic armored vehicle MAC OWL “Owl”. The vehicle belongs to the MRAP class and is positioned as one of the most protected among Ukrainian armored vehicles.
