Starting March 1, 2026, Ukraine will increase minimum pension payments for the families of men and women defenders killed or missing during the full-scale war with Russia.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced this. According to her, the state is obligated to provide adequate support to the families of military personnel who gave their lives defending the country or who are considered missing.
According to a government decision, starting March 1, 2026, the minimum pension payment for each disabled family member (parent, wife, or husband), as well as for one child of a deceased service member, will be no less than 12,810 hryvnias. Currently, this figure is 7,800 hryvnias.
The minimum pension or state social assistance amount will also increase for families in which payments are assigned to two or more family members of a deceased defense attorney, with the exception of disabled parents and spouses. In such cases, the minimum payment amount will be no less than 10,020 hryvnias per family member, up from the current 6,100 hryvnias.
In addition, Yulia Sviridenko noted that, starting March 1, 2027, these payments will be subject to annual indexation.
Incidentally, in 2026, Ukraine will change the minimum insurance period required to qualify for an old-age pension . Since the minimum period increases annually, future retirees should check now whether they have enough years of service.
As a reminder, the Cabinet of Ministers plans to increase and index minimum pensions in 2026. However, even after the increase, the average pension in Ukraine will remain one of the lowest in Europe.
