On Saturday, May 2, the final of the WTA 1000 tournament will be held in Madrid, where the second racket of Ukraine Marta Kostyuk (WTA 23) and “neutral” Mirra Andreeva (WTA 8) will play.
The match is scheduled to start at 6:00 PM Kyiv time.
Marta Kostyuk is having a brilliant season. This is her third final, and she has already won one of them (the WTA 250 tournament in Rouen). Now Marta will play her first WTA 1000 final.
As a reminder, in the semifinals of the tournament in Madrid, Marta Kostyuk defeated the Russian tennis player, who now plays under the flag of Austria, Anastasia Potapova — 6:2, 1:6, 6:1.
Mirra Andreeva’s neutral status means that she is from Russia and continues to play for Russia. She recently celebrated her 19th birthday on April 29. However, her performance in the final of a prestigious tournament, as well as her presence in the top 10 of the world rankings, testify to the strength of this athlete.
So it won’t be easy for Marta, but the quality of her performances this season makes the Ukrainian tennis player the favorite. In addition, she has already defeated Andreeva once – this year in the quarterfinals of the tournament in Brisbane – 7:6, 6:3. By the way, it was in Brisbane that Kostyuk reached the final for the first time this year.
