Mobilization of women in Ukraine 2025: who and how can join the army

The mobilization of women in Ukraine has a clear military rationale, and the idea of “male” and “female” professions is outdated and incorrect.

This was stated by military expert and head of the council of reservists of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Ivan Tymochko in a comment for Telegraf.

“Forming a reserve of women is advisable. The fewer women hiding behind men’s backs, the less pressure there will be for forced mobilization,” the expert explained.

Tymochko stressed the need to maintain a register of specialties that may be needed during mobilization. These include, in particular:

doctors and nurses;

accountants and lawyers;

HR professionals and specialists in the information field.

“It is wrong to believe that some professions are ‘male’ or ‘female.’ Women’s service is voluntary in our country,” he added.

The expert emphasized that the issue of women’s mobilization needs to be discussed openly to avoid panic and discord that the enemy could exploit.

“It is not always logical to replace women with those professions where men are massively recruited. This should be analyzed in each specific case,” Tymochko noted.

Military service encompasses more than just frontline work. There are many areas where physical strength is not required, but they are extremely important during hybrid warfare:

information sphere and cybersecurity;

accounting and law;

journalism and personnel work.

“Our war is hybrid, so these specialties play a critical role,” the expert concluded.

Recall that the mobilization of women in Ukraine is exclusively voluntary . At the same time, from October 1, 2025, only doctors and those who studied at the military department should be registered for military service. Women can hold both rear and combat positions in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, equally with men.
