Mobilization of women in Ukraine: who and under what conditions is registered for military service?

Mobilization of women in Ukraine is exclusively voluntary. At the same time, from October 1, 2025, only doctors and those who studied at a military department should be registered for military service. Women can hold both rear and combat positions in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, equally with men.

It is noted that the mobilization of women in Ukraine is carried out only on a voluntary basis, the Ministry of Defense emphasizes. According to current legislation, women are required to register for military service only in two cases: if they are medical professionals (doctors of all specialties, nurses, pharmacists, dentists) or if they studied at a military department.

Women must register for military registration on time and report any changes in their personal data. In addition, doctors must undergo a mandatory military medical commission (MMC). In case of violation of the rules of military registration, fines from 17 to 25.5 thousand hryvnias are provided, on a par with men.

In the Armed Forces of Ukraine, women have the right to occupy the same positions as men. This applies to both logistics specialties – accountants, clerks, lawyers, psychologists – and combat functions: frontline medics, aerial reconnaissance, drone operators, riflemen. Thus, mobilization does not limit women to logistics roles, but provides the opportunity to fully serve in all units.

From October 1, 2025, no changes are foreseen in the legislation regarding the mandatory mobilization of women, so the procedure remains the same as before: voluntary mobilization and registration are limited to certain categories of female citizens.

By the way, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved changes to the procedure for military registration: from now on, women with medical or pharmaceutical education will be automatically registered without their personal presence . At the same time, they will automatically be assigned the title of “reserve soldier (sailor).”

Recall that in February, a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, People’s Deputy Fedir Venislavskyi, stated that in Ukraine there is no issue of forced mobilization of women . Women can be mobilized only with their voluntary consent.

Previously, women who had completed basic military service were proposed to be registered for military service . The corresponding proposal was put forward by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence.
