The Russian authorities are trying to avoid general mobilization, particularly in large metropolises such as Moscow and St. Petersburg, and are increasingly relying on foreign aid, particularly from North Korea.
This was stated in an interview with Ukrinform by the former commander of US forces in Europe, retired Lieutenant General Ben Hodges.
According to him, the Kremlin continues to look for alternative sources of replenishment of the army in order to avoid taking unpopular steps domestically. In particular, it is talking about the possible sending of up to 30,000 North Korean soldiers to participate in hostilities on the side of Russia.
“This is a fairly significant number, and as far as I know, this wave of North Korean soldiers was trained at a higher level than the previous one,” Hodges said.
He also emphasized that Russia is trying to compensate for losses at the front through high monetary rewards for recruits, but this approach depletes labor resources and negatively affects the industrial sector, in particular the work of factories.
Recall that it is becoming increasingly clear that the Russian authorities are preparing a new wave of mobilization . It will probably take place in the fall of 2025.
As reported, Russia intends to spend about $1.1 trillion on military rearmament by 2036.
