Moldovan Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu unexpectedly announced his resignation.

This was reported by “European Truth” with reference to the official’s post on social networks.

He noted that as of today, July 3, he is leaving the post of Prime Minister.

“I accepted the offer to become Prime Minister with great responsibility and a firm belief that I could contribute to changes for the better. The moment I realized that I could no longer fulfill my role in accordance with my principles and beliefs, I decided to leave,” he wrote to Alexandru Munteanu.

The former prime minister also expressed gratitude to his former government team for their cooperation.

“I will continue to serve my country regardless of my position, where I live, and what my responsibilities will be – in the public or private sector,” Munteanu added.

The publication notes that the official’s resignation is likely related to the corruption scandal that has erupted in the country in recent days.

It has become known that the head of the civil aviation safety agency MOLDATSA, appointed to the position by the current authorities, has a fake higher education diploma and pilot’s license.

In addition, on Thursday, July 2, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture was detained. The official is suspected of bribery. It was previously reported that Hungary has suspended consideration of Ukraine’s and Moldova’s applications for membership in the European Union , postponing a decision on opening all negotiation clusters for both countries.
