More than half of NATO countries have joined the PURL program to arm Ukraine.

More than half of NATO member countries have agreed to participate in the PURL program, which provides for the purchase of American weapons for Ukraine at the expense of European allies.

This was announced by the Secretary General of the Alliance, Mark Rutte.

NATO currently has 32 member states, so more than 16 of them have confirmed their participation in the program. Initially, the PURL format was expected to expand from only six to 13 countries.

As military observer Denis Popovych , currently in Brussels, told Pryamyi , 11 aid packages under the PURL model are planned for Ukraine over the next six months. Four packages have already been implemented. Each package is valued at approximately $500 million. This mechanism involves the delivery of weapons from US Army arsenals.

PURL is an immutable mechanism. Once all 11 packets have been transmitted, the format will be checked and assistance will resume.

As a reminder, the NATO Defense Ministers’ Meeting began in Brussels on October 15. The NATO-Ukraine Council and the Ramstein Coalition will also meet on the same day.

Earlier, “Pryamiy” reported that a meeting of NATO defense ministers would take place in Brussels on October 15 , during which a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council would be held. Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal will participate for the first time.

As a reminder, NATO is preparing a new support package for Ukraine. This week, new commitments from allies may be announced under the PURL program, an international initiative for centralized arms supplies to Kyiv.

It was previously reported that partners contributed $1.5 billion to NATO’s PURL initiative , which allows Ukraine to receive weapons from the United States.

Incidentally, in September, the Trump administration approved the first two NATO-funded military aid packages for Ukraine . These are the PURL (Purpose of Relief and Response) mechanisms, which allow for the rapid delivery of weapons from US stockpiles using funding from allies.
