“Moscow has abandoned Tehran”: will there be a major war in the Middle East?

Despite the seriousness of the attacks against Iran, the US is still acting in a piecemeal manner, lacking a clear vision of further developments in the region, making any successes by its allies only temporary achievements without lasting political results. At the same time, Russia has not shown any willingness to help its partner in Tehran.

Yehor Brailyan, associate professor at Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, told this on the air of “Pryamoy”.

“It’s an epic thing. If we take the short-term consequences, it’s a weakening of the atoll regime in Iran. But if we take the long-term or medium-term consequences, there are none, because the United States of America does not have any specific systemic strategy towards Iran,” the historian is convinced.

According to him, Israel views Iran as an existential threat and seeks the complete destruction of its nuclear potential, while for the American leadership, such actions are more of a tool for demonstrating strength to its own voters.

Currently, the chances of the fundamentalists falling from power remain low, as the democratic opposition abroad lacks a single center. The analyst believes that the only figure capable of uniting the regime’s opponents is the son of the last Shah of the Pahlavi dynasty.

Brailyan also noted that after the massive strikes by Israel and the US on Iranian targets, Russia did not show any willingness to help its partner in Tehran, meaning that the Kremlin once again left the Iranian side alone with its problems. At the same time, Iranian retaliatory attacks on Qatar, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia are unlikely to lead to a direct military clash on the part of the Arab monarchies, the studio guest believes.

“Moscow, as always, has abandoned Tehran. It will be interesting to look, in principle, at Beijing’s position, but they are usually so, you know, restrainedly neutral that we are neither for one nor for the other, but it is beneficial for us that they fight among themselves,” Brailyan noted.

As is known, on February 28, Israel and the United States carried out preemptive strikes on Iran , as well as attacked Hezbollah facilities in southern Lebanon. A state of emergency was declared throughout the country. US President Donald Trump confirmed that the United States had launched a military campaign in Iran .

Meanwhile, a fire broke out in Dubai after a munition fell amid attacks from Iran. The country’s Defense Ministry announced the interception of missiles and confirmed the death of a civilian as a result of falling debris. In addition, Iranian drones attacked residential buildings in the capital of Bahrain, Manama. .

Later it became known that the Supreme Leader of Iran Ali Khamenei was killed as a result of the operation of the USA and Israel. His body has allegedly already been found. The Israel Defense Forces also announced the elimination of representatives of the “top power leadership” of Iran during the operation “Year of the Lion”. The agency published the names of the officials who, according to them, were destroyed, but Tehran did not officially confirm these reports.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump announced the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei . According to him, the operation was carried out in cooperation with Israel, and the strikes will continue.
