Moscow refinery left without main capacity after two attacks – media
The second drone strike in a week on Gazpromneft’s Moscow oil refinery damaged another key facility at the company. Fires broke out on the refinery’s territory after the attack.
This was reported by Reuters, citing industry sources.
According to the agency’s interlocutors, the Euro+ combined oil refining unit, which was put into operation in 2020 as part of the modernization of the enterprise, was hit. Its capacity is about 140 thousand barrels per day, which is almost 47% of the plant’s total capacity.
In addition to the plant itself, the catalytic reformer, diesel fuel hydrotreating unit, inter-unit pipelines, auxiliary equipment, and oil product storage tanks, where fires broke out, were damaged.
Reuters recalls that on June 16, Ukrainian drones had already attacked the Moscow Refinery. Then another main unit for primary oil distillation, CDU-6, which provided about 53% of the enterprise’s production capacity, was damaged.
Before the new attack, the plant had planned to restart the Euro+ unit in the coming days and partially return to oil refining while repairs to CDU-6 were ongoing. However, after the second attack, these plans were in jeopardy.
According to the agency, in 2024, the Moscow Refinery processed 11.6 million tons of oil, producing about 2.9 million tons of gasoline, 3.2 million tons of diesel fuel, and 1.3 million tons of bitumen.
As a reminder, on June 18,drones attacked a number of facilities in Russia . Moscow, Rostov and Belgorod regions were hit. After the attacks, fires broke out at several facilities.
