Most Ukrainians believe Zelensky should not run for a second term – KIIS

More than half of Ukrainians believe that Volodymyr Zelenskyy should limit himself to one presidential term and not run for a second in the next election.

This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology from September 12 to 21.

Verbatim, sociologists say : “Currently, 53% believe he should limit himself to one current term (an increase from 46% in December 2025). At the same time, 42% believe he should run in the next election (a decrease from 45%). The remaining 5% are undecided.”

Details: KIIS notes that there is a clear correlation between the level of trust in the president and support for his participation in the elections.

“If 85% of those who fully trust the president support his participation in the elections, then this figure drops to 53% among those who rather trust him, and, accordingly, 20% and 7% among those who rather or not at all trust him,” the sociologists note.

The study was conducted from September 12 to 21. A random sample of mobile phone numbers was used to conduct telephone interviews with 1,002 respondents aged 18 and older living in all regions of Ukraine controlled by the Ukrainian government. The sample did not include residents of territories temporarily outside the control of the Ukrainian government (although some respondents were internally displaced persons who had fled the occupied territories). Surveys were also not conducted among citizens who left the country after February 24, 2022.

Formally, under normal circumstances, the statistical error of such a sample (with a probability of 0.95 and taking into account the design effect of 1.3) did not exceed 4.1% for indicators close to 50%, 3.5% for indicators close to 25%, 2.5% for indicators close to 1.3, 5%.

In wartime conditions, in addition to the formal error mentioned above, a certain systematic deviation is added, but sociologists believe that the obtained results still retain a high level of representativeness and allow for a fairly reliable analysis of public sentiment.
