Most Ukrainians consider Poroshenko to be the leader of the opposition – KIIS poll

Petro Poroshenko is most often called the leader of the political opposition in Ukraine. According to the results of a KIIS poll, 30% of respondents hold this opinion. Over the past year, this figure has increased by six percentage points.

This is evidenced by the results of a study by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, conducted on September 12–21, 2026.

Sociologists asked respondents to name a politician they considered the leader of the opposition. Participants could choose one of six proposed figures or name their own option.

The fifth president of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, received the most responses – 30%. In February 2025, he was mentioned by 24% of respondents.

Dmytro Razumkov came in second place in terms of mentions – 11%. His figure also increased compared to the previous survey, when it was 7%.

Other politicians were mentioned less frequently:

  • Serhiy Prytula – 8%;
  • Yulia Tymoshenko – 6%;
  • Yuriy Boyko – 3%;
  • Oleksiy Arestovych – 3%.

Another 7% of respondents gave other answer options.

At the same time, 11% of respondents believe that there is no real opposition in Ukraine , and 21% could not decide on an answer.

According to KIIS, compared to February 2025, the share of those who believe that there is no real opposition in the country has decreased from 16% to 11%.

The share of respondents who were unable to identify the opposition leader also decreased, from 27% to 21%.

In total, 68% of the study participants chose one of the politicians from the proposed list.

The Kyiv International Institute of Sociology surveyed 1,002 adult citizens of Ukraine through telephone interviews based on a random sample of mobile numbers.

The survey was conducted in government-controlled territory of Ukraine. The sample did not include residents of temporarily occupied territories and citizens who traveled abroad after February 24, 2022.

Under normal conditions, the formal statistical error does not exceed 4.1% for indicators close to 50%. At the same time, sociologists note that wartime circumstances can cause additional deviations.

Recall, in February 2025, KIIS also conducted a study on who Ukrainians consider the leader of the opposition . Then, 24% of respondents named Petro Poroshenko, 9% named Serhiy Prytula, 8% named Yulia Tymoshenko, and 7% named Dmytro Razumkov.
