“Munich Conspiracy” or Empty Talk: What to Expect from the Meeting in Alaska

Any agreements reached in Alaska between the US and Russian presidents regarding Ukraine without Europe’s participation will have no meaning. Therefore, no significant changes should be expected after this meeting, and Ukrainians should prepare for a long struggle with the aggressor.

This opinion was expressed on the air of “Pryamoy” by Ukrainian politician Volodymyr Omelyan.

“We are not alone, and there will definitely be no “Munich conspiracy”, because Europe is on the side of Ukraine. It is a pity that the security memorandums that Yermak and Zelensky signed with such aplomb in previous years are not working. But, nevertheless, it is critically important now to help the Armed Forces, and the energy of our people should be directed to this. Because with the quality of the diplomatic team that Ukraine currently represents, miracles should not be expected. The only miracle that can be created is the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” Omelyan noted.

In his opinion, whatever Trump and Putin agree on in Alaska, it will be impossible to implement without the participation of Europe.

“In this situation, we have a clear position of Germany, Britain, a less loud but consistent position of France, which are completely on the side of Ukraine. This is the main message for Trump: no matter what he agrees with Putin, the White House as an institution will not allow him to implement it. And without the position of Europe, these agreements will have no meaning. Even if European leaders are not present at this meeting between Putin and Trump, even if Zelensky is not invited and the issue of Ukraine is discussed, it will have minimal effect. An attempt to send us a document that you guys are leaving everything on the left side of the Dnieper will not work,” the Ukrainian politician explains.

He also commented on the likely benefits for Ukraine from such a meeting between the presidents of the United States and the Russian Federation.

“The ideal situation is to detain Putin, but we live in the real world. Most likely, these will be negotiations about nothing, during which Trump will not be able to achieve a breakthrough. He will declare it a victory, but the war will continue. This is the logic of the Kremlin and China’s actions. The United States has only just begun negotiations with China, they are not completed. This situation is beneficial for China for better preferences. As the Romans said, if you want peace, prepare for war. Unfortunately, we did not prepare, but we must prepare for a long war, whether we want it or not,” Volodymyr Omelyan summed up.

As a reminder, on August 15, US President Donald Trump and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin will meet in Alaska . The American state is not exactly convenient for holding the summit, but there are a number of factors that influenced the choice.

Alaska is a safe haven for the Russian dictator, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court for deporting Ukrainian children to Russia, but neither Washington nor Moscow recognizes the ICC. There are also no “unfriendly countries” through which Putin would have to fly.

During a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin, it is planned to discuss territorial concessions for Ukraine. It is assumed that Russia may leave Kharkiv and Sumy regions in exchange for the withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Donetsk region .

European politicians and the Ukrainian leadership reacted sharply to the planned meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska on August 15. They emphasized that the future of Ukraine and the security of Europe cannot be decided without the direct participation of Kyiv and Brussels.
