Ukraine plans to strengthen the protection of museum values during war, change rules for religious organizations and the publishing industry, and rename the “kopeck” coin to “shag.”
This was reported by the press service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy recommended that the parliament adopt in its entirety draft law No. 14391 on improving public administration in the field of culture and protection of cultural heritage.
The document provides for changes in several areas, including the protection of cultural heritage, museum and publishing activities, the work of religious organizations, and the implementation of the state policy of national memory.
One of the tasks of the bill is to strengthen the protection of cultural property during war and emergencies. It also proposes to improve mechanisms for preserving archaeological heritage and moving cultural property.
Among other provisions of the document:
- ensuring the continuous operation of cultural institutions in front-line territories;
changing the procedures for terminating religious organizations and disposing of their property;
- increasing transparency of the book market and supporting reading.
Some provisions concern the preservation of Ukrainian historical traditions. In particular, it is proposed to bring the names of some courts into line with the decolonized names of districts.
In addition, the bill provides for an increase in the period during which it is prohibited to change the name of a legal entity or property object named after a prominent person.
Another suggestion is to replace the name of the coin “kopeck” with “step”.
The committee has now recommended that the Verkhovna Rada adopt draft law No. 14391 in its entirety. For it to enter into force, the parliament must support the document.
