Mykhailo Mudryk returns to football after doping case closed

The Football Association (FA) has closed its anti-doping case against Chelsea’s Ukrainian winger Mykhailo Mudryk, allowing him to return to professional football with immediate effect. The player, Chelsea and the FA have all commented on the closure of the case and confirmed that all restrictions on the player have been lifted.

The Football Association of England announced that the disciplinary proceedings against Mudryk were finally settled on 30 July 2026 in agreement with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The association noted that after the update of WADA’s technical standards, the concentration of meldonium found in the Ukrainian’s sample would not be considered grounds for opening an anti-doping case under the current rules.

As part of the settlement agreement, the player admitted a procedural violation and the suspension was limited to the period he had actually served. The FA said Mudryk was no longer suspended and could return to competition immediately.

Chelsea confirmed the case had been resolved and said it had been resolved after taking into account updated scientific testing standards. The club stressed that under current requirements the player’s doping test would not have been considered positive.

Chelsea also stated that throughout the entire investigation they supported the Ukrainian, who consistently denied knowingly using banned substances, and will now help him return to training and official matches. According to journalists, Mudryk is expected to join the London club’s pre-season tour in the near future.

Mudryk himself called the completion of the case the most difficult period of his career.

“After a long struggle, the four-year suspension imposed on me has been lifted and I can resume my career immediately. This has been the most difficult period in my career,” the footballer said.

Mudryk also reiterated that he had never knowingly used banned substances.

“As I have stated from the very beginning of this case, I have never knowingly or intentionally used any prohibited substances,” he said.

The footballer thanked his family, friends, teammates, Chelsea fans and his legal team for their support during the case.

“Now I’m fully focused on getting back into football, working hard every day and making a difference on the field,” Mudryk said.
