National Police Day of Ukraine: history and significance of the holiday
Every year on July 4, National Police Day is celebrated in Ukraine.
This day is a professional holiday for all employees of the National Police of Ukraine. It was officially approved by decree of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko in December 2015. Initially, the celebration fell on August 4, the date of signing the law on the creation of the National Police, but in 2018 it was decided to postpone the celebration to July 4.
The National Police of Ukraine is the main executive body responsible for protecting the rights and freedoms of citizens, ensuring security and order in the state. Its work is coordinated by the Cabinet of Ministers through the Minister of Internal Affairs.
The main task of the police is to protect the life and health of people, protect property, as well as combat crime and ensure public peace. The management of police activities is carried out at the highest level – directly by the president or through the Minister of Internal Affairs and the leadership of the relevant units.
