NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Alexus Hrynkevich, has assessed the long-term consequences of the war against Ukraine for Russia and the risks to the Alliance’s security. According to him, the massive losses of the Russian army weaken the future capabilities of the Russian Federation, and the risk of a full-scale attack on NATO countries remains relatively low for now.

Hrynkevich noted that Russian troops suffer significant casualties every month, which will have consequences for the future development of the country and the level of well-being of its population.

“The Ukrainians are also suffering losses, but the Russians are losing much, much more people killed every month. This has long-term consequences for the future viability of Russia and the level of prosperity it will be able to achieve in the future – after this conflict is over,” the general noted.

According to the Alliance’s command, the likelihood of a large-scale Russian military attack on NATO territory remains relatively low at present. This is due to the fact that the main forces of the Russian army are involved in the war against Ukraine.

“Currently, the risk of a large-scale attack on NATO territory is relatively low. The reason is that Vladimir Putin is waging a war in Ukraine, and his troops, unfortunately, are involved in this conflict. These forces cannot be used to threaten NATO territory. This does not mean that he is not capable of some smaller-scale actions; of course, we see sabotage activities and everything else that is happening,” Hrynkevich emphasized.

At the same time, NATO warns that the low risk of a full-scale invasion does not mean the absence of other threats. Russia continues to use hybrid methods of influence and subversive activities on the territory of European countries.

By the way, the Russian army suffered more than 50,000 casualties in Ukraine in September , with up to 28,000 soldiers possibly killed. According to a senior NATO official, this is about ten times more than the losses of Ukrainian forces during the same period.
