NATO cannot agree on aid to Ukraine for 2027 through Italy – media

The Italian government does not yet support the decision to allocate 70 billion euros in military aid from NATO to Ukraine in 2027. Because of this, the Alliance countries will continue negotiations before the summit to try to reach a compromise.

This was reported by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, citing diplomatic sources.

According to the publication, ambassadors of NATO member states have already agreed on a draft final declaration, which provides for the provision of military assistance, weapons supplies, and training support to Ukraine in the amount of 70 billion euros in 2026.

At the same time, the issue of similar funding for 2027 remains unresolved.

According to FAZ, it was Italy that opposed the inclusion in the document of a commitment to allocate another 70 billion euros in military aid to Ukraine in 2027.

Representatives of the Alliance member states are expected to hold additional consultations to agree on a final position before the start of the NATO summit, which is scheduled to take place this week in Ankara.

Officially, the Italian authorities have not yet commented on information about their position on financing military assistance to Ukraine in 2027.
