NATO is developing a new military concept to respond to a direct Russian attack on an alliance member state. The plan calls for the widespread use of drones, minimally manned systems, and artificial intelligence-based targeting.
This is reported by Bloomberg .
Journalists have obtained an unclassified version of the document, titled “Theory of Victory,” authored by NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Alexus Hrynkevich. He plans to formally present the plan in Poland on October 12.
The document aims to define the course of action for allies in the event of a potential Russian aggression. The new concept involves combining traditional weapons with technologies that have demonstrated effectiveness during the war in Ukraine.
In the event of a Russian attack, the first step would be to stop the invasion with ground forces on NATO’s eastern flank. After that, the Alliance plans to focus on destroying the enemy’s command and control systems, which, according to the developers, should weaken Russian forces.
Hrynkevich’s spokesman, Colonel Martin O’Donnell, said the strategy is exclusively defensive in nature and is aimed at preventing unintentional escalation. The document also provides for joint counteraction to hybrid threats.
“The Supreme Allied Commander Europe’s theory of victory is simple: maintain NATO’s superiority. Given the volatile and complex global security situation, we need to create the conditions now to deter aggression and, if necessary, win in the event of an attack,” O’Donnell emphasized.
According to him, NATO’s demonstration of readiness and technological superiority should convince a potential adversary that it is impossible to defeat the Alliance.
By the way, Estonia is moving its main combat brigade closer to the border with Russia and switching to a strategy of “active defense.” The country is also building new military bases and purchasing weapons capable of striking deep into Russian territory.
Recall that Russia tightened restrictions on movement in the border zone near Estonia . Tallinn stated at the time that the assessment of the security threat to the country had not changed.
