On the night of September 10, numerous Russian drones entered Polish airspace. Polish and NATO air defense systems immediately responded to this. The Alliance’s press secretary reported on the social network X that the NATO Secretary General is in contact with the Polish leadership, and the alliance is holding further coordination consultations with Poland.
At the same time, according to Reuters, NATO does not recognize this incident as an attack.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk reassured the public, emphasizing that the reason for the closure of the four airports was technical needs related to air operations, and not an immediate threat.
According to Reuters, preliminary data indicates that six to ten drones deliberately violated Polish airspace.
For the first time in the Alliance’s history, an air attack on a member country prompted an immediate response, with NATO aircraft opening fire on potentially dangerous targets. The night-time operation involved Polish F-16 fighters, Dutch F-35s, Italian AWACS reconnaissance aircraft, and NATO refueling aircraft.
Although Patriot systems detected drones on radar, they were not used to destroy targets.
Recall, after a group of Russian drones penetrated the airspace of Poland, a NATO member state, a number of Western governments expressed solidarity and concern . Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson condemned the violation of the Polish border by Russian drones, calling it an “unacceptable act.” Latvian President Edgars Rinkėvičius also issued a statement, emphasizing Poland’s full support. In his opinion, such incidents indicate that the Russian Federation’s war against Ukraine has direct consequences for the security of neighboring states.
Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide described the situation as “deeply worrying,” emphasizing that Norway stands shoulder to shoulder with Poland and other NATO allies.
As it turned out, on the night of September 9-10, the situation in Eastern Europe escalated again – Russia launched a massive strike on the territory of Ukraine, while a number of enemy drones crossed the air border of Poland . This forced Warsaw to activate air defense forces and engage aviation.
By the way, on the morning of September 10 , Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk initiated an urgent government meeting due to an incident involving the violation of the country’s airspace by Russian drones.
