A two-day NATO summit kicks off in The Hague on Tuesday, June 24. The main topics of this year’s meeting will be strengthening NATO’s deterrence and defense system, increasing defense investment, deepening cooperation with the European Union, and continuing support for Ukraine in the war and reconstruction process.
The focus will be on increasing the resilience of democratic societies, jointly combating terrorist threats, a fair distribution of financial obligations among member states, and the formation of a new transatlantic consensus on security.
NATO Secretary General and Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoff are expected to deliver speeches, as well as leading politicians, military officials and experts. The main topics of discussion will be NATO’s role in ensuring European security, joint work with the EU, the US position and the Alliance’s strategic prospects.
As a reminder, earlier, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy considered the possibility of canceling his visit to the NATO summit in The Hague , scheduled for June 24. This decision was a result of the deep disappointment of the head of state due to the failure of a personal meeting with Donald Trump at the G7 summit in Canada, as well as the failure of key agreements, in particular on military assistance and sanctions against Russia.
As reported, Donald Trump’s early departure from the G7 summit in Canada turned out to have more than just an official cover-up – the real reasons lay in diplomatic friction and personal “irritations.”
