NATO ambassadors in Brussels will discuss the increase in attacks on ships near Romania and Bulgaria next week, following recent drone incidents that left two ships on fire and seven sailors missing.

This is reported by France24.

According to Romanian authorities, the San Marino-flagged tanker Wine Trader caught fire on October 15 about 24 kilometers southeast of the city of Sulina. The vessel was en route from Tunisia to Romania.

Five crew members were rescued, while seven others are missing. Two Black Hawk helicopters and two ships carrying medical personnel were involved in the search and rescue operation.

Romanian President Nicos Dan said that both ships damaged in the latest incidents were attacked by drones. At the same time, he refrained from direct accusations against Russia and stressed the need to establish all the circumstances of the events.

As a reminder, on October 13, drones attacked two ships near the coast of Bulgaria. According to preliminary data, one of them sank. The entire crew, including seven Ukrainian citizens, was evacuated from the other.

In response, the Bulgarian side plans to summon Russian Ambassador Valentina Mitrofanova. In addition, the situation is to be discussed with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
