NATO will launch a military operation in the east of the alliance: what does it entail and what resources will be involved

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced the alliance’s launch of Operation Eastern Sentinel amid Russian drone violations of Polish airspace.

This was reported by Reuters.

The operation was designed to strengthen defenses along NATO’s entire eastern flank — from the Baltic states to Romania and Bulgaria.

Military activity will begin in the coming days. Resources from Denmark, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, and other partners will be involved.

It is known that two Danish F-16 fighters and a frigate, three French Rafale fighters, and four German Eurofighter aircraft will participate in the operation.

“Poland and citizens across the alliance should be confident in our swift response earlier this week and our important statement here today,” said NATO Supreme Allied Commander Alexus Grinkiewicz.

The North Atlantic Alliance has already amassed significant forces in Eastern Europe, including thousands of troops. However, the number of additional soldiers that will be involved in the new operation is not specified.

At the same time, Hrinkevich emphasized that “Eastern Sentinel” involves a more flexible approach to defense, rather than simply concentrating a large number of forces.

As reported, on the night of September 9-10, the situation in Eastern Europe escalated again – Russia launched a massive strike on the territory of Ukraine, while a number of enemy drones crossed the air border of Poland . This forced Warsaw to activate air defense forces and engage aviation.

It should be noted that 19 Russian drones violated Polish airspace . Polish air defense forces were able to eliminate only four of them.

It should be added that later , in addition to seven drones, a missile fragment was also found on Polish territory.

By the way, on the morning of September 10 , Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk initiated an urgent government meeting due to an incident involving the violation of the country’s airspace by Russian drones.
